Telangana varsity VC Ravinder held for bribery

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Ravinder Gupta, the Vice Chancellor of the Nizamabad Telangana University for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 on Saturday.
The arrest was made at his residence in Tarnaka on a complaint that he had allegedly demanded money to establish an examination centre at Bheemgal in the Nizamabad district.

ACB officials are likely to file a case against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
“At around 10.50 hours Dachepalli Ravinder (63), the Vice Chancellor of Telangana University accepted a bribe of Rs 50,000 at his residence from complainant Dasari Shankar for allotting an examination centre at the complainant’s college in Bheemgal for 2022-23. The bribe amount was recovered from an almirah in the VC’s bedroom in the presence of mediators,” DSP T. Sudharshan said.

A chemical test conducted on both hands of the VC yielded a positive result. Proceedings are on, he added.

Speaking to the media Ravinder said, “I am not making any comments.”

When asked whether anybody had conspired against him regarding the appointment of a Registrar, he said nothing of that sought had happened. “We are not involved in contract appointments,” he said.
