Is it possible for their party workers to achieve the targets fixed by Telugu Chief Ministers in the Assembly elections?
Telangana Chief Minister BRS President K. Chandrasekhar Rao is aiming to win 100 plus seats in the Assembly elections. Similarly, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YSR Congress President Jagan Mohan Reddy is aiming to win all 175 seats.
In Telangana, there are 119 Assembly seats. In Hyderabad Old City no other party except the AIMIM can win the seven Assembly seats there.
The BRS is weak in the erstwhile Khammam district. During the last Assembly elections, the BRS could win only one out of the 10 seats in the district.
Due to recent developments, the BRS has lost ground in Khammam district. Going by present trends the BRS cannot win seven seats in Hyderabad Old City and nine seats in Khammam district.
In the remaining 103 (119–16) seats, the BRS has to win almost all seats to achieve the target of 100 plus seats fixed by KCR. That means that the BJP and the Congress should not win a single seat except in Khammam.
Political observers do not consider this as an achievable target as even in the worst possible situation the Congress will win at least 10 seats. In the last Assembly elections, the Congress won 19 seats. The BJP won only one seat in the Assembly elections but won two seats in by-elections.
Political observers think that the BJP has a chance of winning at least five seats in the coming Assembly elections. If the BRS has an alliance with the Left it has to give a minimum of five seats each to the CPI and the CPM. Given this scenario, winning 100 seats is very difficult for the BRS.
Meanwhile, in Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is aiming to win all the total 175 Assembly seats in the state as indicated by the YSRC slogan ‘Why Not 175.’
In the last Assembly elections, the YSR Congress won 151 Assembly seats out of 175. Jagan is confident that the welfare schemes implemented by his government will help his party to win all 175 seats. This means that the main opposition TDP has no chance of winning even a single Assembly seat which is not believable.
Many political observers think that if the TDP and the Jana Sena have an alliance the YSR Congress will face a tough fight in the Assembly elections. The TDP was facing the worst situation in its history during the last Assembly elections but even then it won 23 seats.
Political observers think that both the Telugu Chief Ministers are just trying to boost the confidence of their party cadres by making such statements. Both Telugu Chief Ministers may fail to achieve their targets but there is every chance of them retaining power in their respective states.
