Emphasising that being born as a human is a great gift from God, Minister for Excise and Prohibition, Tourism and Culture Jupally Krishna Rao said that life is one and everyone should live happily till old age. He noted that while saints in the past lived for 100 years, today people are dying as early as 30 due to various issues, including drug abuse.
Jupally participated in the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking conducted by the State government at Shilpakala Vedika, along with the Minister of Women and Child Welfare of Telangana Seethakka, actor Suman, former cricketer Mithali Raj, DGP Ravi Gupta, CP Avinash Mohanty and other police officers on Wednesday.
Jupally compared drug trafficking and usage to terrorism, describing drugs as silent killers. He said that while humans can achieve anything they set their minds to, in the same way, moral values are degrading in the society.
Jupally highlighted that many children are getting into drugs through tactical means, ultimately losing their lives. He also mentioned that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, in just three months into office, made a serious decision to tackle drug trafficking and make Telangana a drug-free State. The government has also decided on imposing life imprisonment for drug traffickers to create fear in traffickers and abusers.
Addressing the gathering, Seethakka compared drugs to an unseen pandemic shaking the world and causing families to lose respect. She criticised drug trafficking as being profit-making for businessmen in international trade while addicts lose their lives, health and societal standing, often leading to deaths, rapes, and murders.
Seethakka called for collective action against drug trafficking, urging communities, villages and shops to prevent its spread. She compared drug abusers to weeds and pests, emphasising their harmful impact on society.
Speaking to students, she warned against surrendering to drug traps for temporary pleasure, urging them to aspire to careers like IAS and IPS officers instead and fight against drug-abuse.
She also mentioned that CM Revanth Reddy reviews reports weekly and implements strict measures against trafficking and drug abuse.
Various college students attended the programme. Jupally and Seethakka launched a drug awareness poster, and played a song aimed at combating drug abuse and trafficking, featuring actor Suman.
