Filmmaker TG Keerthi Kumar, made his film debut with Malli Modalaindi, directed by Sumanth Yarlagadda. Currently, he is directing Vennela Kishore’s Chaari 111, set for release on March 1st. The filmmaker got down for a quick conversation as the movie’s release date drew near and shared some intriguing details about the movie with the media.
The director claimed that prior to beginning his profession, he had never had a directorial idea. “I took a course in visual communication before beginning my job as an editor, and I edited corporate films and TV ads for almost ten years. After that, I worked on Malli Modalaindi, my first film.”
He first presented the concept for Chaari 111 to Vennela Kishore, who played a comic in the movie. “Later, I shared the script with him,” the director states. “Despite not having the script narration, he reviewed the script and gave the project his OK. He had faith in me right away.” Pink Panther and Johnny English’s core themes served as inspiration for this movie. I was really fond of those espionage comedies, which inspired me to write this script. Casting is crucial for a movie like Chaari 111, and I was fortunate to have Vennela Kishore and Murali Sharma sign on.” He highlights, “This is a character-driven movie; the conflict and villain will emerge later.”
It’s an action comedy spy movie. “As an example, Johnny English is a spy comedy, whereas James Bond is an action spy. My movie fits into the second group. I had Vennela Kishore in mind when I created this script. If Kishore hadn’t given the script his approval, I wouldn’t have made this movie.”
“In our film, Kishore’s character irritates his boss to no end,” the director says. “And, I chose Murali Sharma for the role because I needed an actor with a serious appearance. The antagonist in our movie dons a mask for a reason. Although there wasn’t a deliberate attempt to conceal the antagonist, the plot does have an intriguing element. For commercial reasons, we therefore chose to maintain the suspense.”
He hopes to collaborate with a famous hero in the future. He feels that he needs to establish himself before he can work with a famous hero on an action movie. That he made Chaari 111 makes him pleased! “There is potential to include more heroes in the film. I have to say that there are plans to create a sequel for Chaari 111. This universe has a lot of possibilities for spy comedies.”
