In a tragic incident, three children, including two girls, drowned in a water-filled pit at Devarajapuram village in Kuppam mandal on Sunday.
According to the police, a large pit had been dug on open land for the construction of a house. Recent heavy rains had caused it to fill with water. While playing near the site, the children accidentally entered the pit and drowned.
The deceased were identified as Gowthami (7), Shalini (7), and Ashwan (7), all belonging to the same family. Their bodies were retrieved and shifted to the Government General Hospital in Kuppam for post-mortem examination.
Police confirmed that the pit had been excavated for laying the foundation of a house. A pall of gloom descended on the village following the tragic loss of the three children
