‘Help protect children. Don’t Share. Don’t Comment. Report’ campaign will educate users on the harms of sharing Child Sexual Abuse Material and importance of reporting such content
Collaborating with Meta on ‘Help protect children. Don’t Share. Don’t Comment. Report’ campaign, Tisca Chopra, Bollywood celebrity, shared her thoughts on the appropriate behaviour people should undertake if they come across child abuse content online.
Launched under Meta’s #DigitalSuraksha initiative ‘Help protect children. Don’t Share. Don’t Comment. Report,’ prevents the sharing of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and encourages people to report such content instead. The campaign will educate people on the harm CSAM causes, and the impact it has on victims. It will encourage anyone who sees harmful videos and images of children to protect the victim by reporting it immediately to Facebook.
“It is not only important for parents to create checks and balances to ensure a safe online experience for kids, but it is also equally important for everyone to know what is the correct way to report content online.” During the chat, Tisca discussed the difficulties that parents face when attempting to monitor their children’s online activity in today’s time and age. She also spoke about the importance for parents to increase healthy communication around safety-related issues with children.
In conversation with Tisca Chopra, Natasha Jog, Head, Public Policy, Instagram and Policy Programs, Facebook India (Meta), said, “Our research shows that 75% of the Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) is shared with no intention of harm, but for reasons such as to condemn it, express anger, or express outrage. This campaign will educate users on the impact of sharing CSAM on victims, even when shared without any intention to cause harm. It will further empower users to keep children safe by reporting inappropriate content. “
Recently, Meta launched its #DigitalSuraksha campaign to unpack a series of consumer awareness initiatives. Over the course of the year, Meta will continue to add more initiatives to the #DigitalSuraksha campaign that will be geared toward reaching a larger audience through education, creating more awareness and advancing India’s agenda of digital inclusion and growth.
