Tollywood celebs who fell prey to ferocious trolls

Must read

For some celebrities, with vanity comes misery! Both traditionally and in modern times, people in the limelight were never immune to public shaming of some kind. Of course with the rise of social media, the trend of memes caught on like the Covid virus. Trust me! No one can literally escape the trolls.

Today’s 2022 round-up is about the top 5 Tollywood celebs who’ve been ruthlessly trolled for their antics and/or films.

Vishnu Manchu:

We all know that Vishnu Manchu is trying hard to shape his image. One can’t be sure how productive his stint as the youngest MAA President(Movie Artists Association) was, but the meme pages had a ball throughout his campaigning period. Anyway, that’s only to give you some context. Recently, ahead of his film’s release titled Ginna, the star was yet again trolled for being cocky and disillusioned about himself.

Right from the teaser launch to the first day and long after the film’s release, meme pages didn’t spare the actor. Some called him a Pan-Indian superstar looking at the disappointing box-office collections while others simply quipped, “Let them know, Uncle!” The star even invited all the admins of the meme pages as part of the movies’ promotions, but that gimmick didn’t land the trolls in his court. How long will this continue? Only “Tanguturi Veershalingam Pakarabadram Pantulu” can tell (wink, wink!)

Vijay Devarakonda:

There’s no doubt that Vijay Devarakonda is a superstar, but that doesn’t stop the trolling. Ever since the trailer of the film Liger came out, a vast section of people criticized the trailer for being over the top. The netizens never approved of the film’s hype generated by VD’s fans.

The Devarakonda, as everyone calls him, is known for his confident speeches at audio launch events. They ooze and reek of cockiness and charm. All that works in one’s favour only when the film does the talking though. Liger flopped miserably at the box office collecting lousy numbers. Smartly enough, the trolls pulled out a part of his speech where he says, “India ki watt laga denge” which is also a dialogue that plays out a zillion times in the film. The master trolls even trolled the director of the film for saying the film would be collecting a mind-boggling 100 crores. Wait! How can we forget the stammering crutch the makers used in the film to show the actors’ performative skills? All in all, 2022 was a bad year for VD. Let’s hope he shuts up the haters with a hit soon.

Prabhas:

After the humongous success of Baahubali, Prabhas struggled to strike it big at the box office. He was criticised for his acting and body in Radhe Shyam. Just when fans thought the Billa star would deliver a blockbuster with Om Raut’s Adipurush, the trailer killed all the hopes.

The trailer was trolled for its amateur graphics. The backlash wasn’t just for the trailer, but people were shocked seeing such a mediocre output for a film budgeted at 500 crores.
At the launch of the event, a clip of Prabhas pointing fingers at director Om Raut and saying, “Om! Come to my room”, has gone viral. The outright trolling and the controversy surrounding the misrepresentation of  “Ramayana” led to the makers pushing the release date from Jan. 12 to June 16, 2023.

Megastar Chiranjeevi:

Even the mighty God of masses couldn’t escape the curse of being trolled. It all started when the actor accidentally slipped in the title of his upcoming film Acharya at the time in an audio function. Soon, leaking exciting updates related to his projects would become a habit for the star.

And his ability to generate a few iconic funny moments on stage during audio functions provides meme pages with plenty of content. Looks like the Godfather star has taken all the trolling in his stride.

A few weeks ago, Chiranjeevi posted a vlog on Instagram capturing the picturesque landscape of Les Gets located in the south of France. At the end of the video, he deliberately used the term “Chiru Leaks” in order to launch the teaser of the song named Sridevi from his upcoming film titled Waltair Veerayya. Could there be a better example of a 67 year old adapting to social media?

Devi Sri Prasad:

The music maestro hit himself in the foot this time with a track titled “Boss Party” from Megastar Chiranjeevi’s upcoming filmWaltair Veerayya. Within a few hours of its release last month, thousands of memes were churned out with a hundred funny templates. The song was trolled for its quirky lyrics.

The story goes that DSP’s songs give people some trouble in the beginning but one ends up liking them. However, that’s not the case with “Boss Party”. The Telugu audience loves him for his music, but he sure disappointed fans with the song. Oh boy! This one has been quite brutal. The comments section would be a nightmare for any creator with such stature.
