Tribals call to set up Tribal University in Telangana

Must read

Telangana Rashtra Samithi Vidyarthi Vibhag (TRSV) leader Srinu Naik said that the tribal community of Telangana condemned BJP Central government’s attitude towards establishing a Tribal University in the state and their constant disparity towards the state.

Srinu Naik on Thursday expressed disappointment that Andhra Pradesh had successfully established a tribal university in 2019, following the provisions of the Partition Act of 2014, while Telangana is yet to witness any progress in this regard. “It has been four years since the Act was implemented, and the Central government has failed to initiate even the basic process for establishing a tribal university in Telangana. The detrimental impact of this neglect is on hundreds of tribal students who are being deprived of higher education opportunities. The chance for tribal students in Telangana to pursue research on their dreams, culture and literature is being lost,” he said.

He further said that Chief Minister KCR is addressing tribal issues by providing reservations and implementing various welfare measures. He said that the establishment of institutions such as Sewalal Banjara Bhavan and Adivasi Bhavan were seen as steps toward self-respect for tribals in Hyderabad.

In response to the Central government’s indifference, the TRSV leaders warned that if BJP party representatives, including the Governor, central minister and MLAs, fail to respond to the tribal university demand, they will be met with resistance during the upcoming elections. They threatened to boycott visits by the BJP representatives to Thandas and Gudems, the tribal settlements, and even besiege the residences of BJP party MPs at the central office.

Tribal student union leaders including Naresh Naik, Kurra Vamsi Naik, Sangeeta Naik, Kishan Naik, and Motilal Naik, who voiced their support for the cause, called for urgent attention to the educational rights of tribals in Telangana.
