Finance Minister T. Harish Rao commended the Commercial Taxes Department for its exceptional achievement of collecting taxes amounting to Rs 72,564 crore during fiscal 2022-23.
He extended his heartfelt congratulations to everyone in the department for their unwavering dedication and hard work in accomplishing this feat. The department has been allocated a target of Rs 85,413 crore for this year.
The Minister for Finance and Health, Harish Rao, attended the brainstorming conference organised by the Commercial Tax Department at the Golconda Resort with a focus on increasing revenue.
The event was attended by Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari, Commercial Tax Commissioner Neethu Prasad, officials and employees of the Commercial Department.
Harish expressed emphasised the significance of maintaining momentum and achieving goals for fiscal 2023-24.
He highlighted the government’s commitment to welfare programmes which distinguishes it as a frontrunner among all states in the country. Harish acknowledged the vital role played by the Commercial Taxes Department in collecting funds to support these initiatives.
He said that the success of public welfare programmes depends on their diligence and urged them to remember that every Rupee collected contributes to helping the underprivileged.
The Chief Minister also lauded the department’s performance, recognising its contributions to the state’s progress. Harish called upon all employees of the department to work diligently for the state and the nation.
He emphasized that Telangana serves as a model for the country, with its welfare schemes inspiring the Centre’s welfare initiatives.
The state’s programmes like Mission Bhagiratha, Rythu Bandhu, and initiatives like providing ambulances for animals and establishing medical colleges in each district, have been adopted by several states and the Centre, he said.
He highlighted the state’s outstanding performance in GST meetings surpassing other states. He proudly announced that Telangana ranked first in India in terms of state-owned revenue growth rate in the last eight years. He attributed this impressive growth to transparent governance.
Harish emphasised that Telangana is a zero cess-taking state from the Centre, underscoring its commitment to progressive taxation policies. He also assured the Commercial Tax Department of unwavering government support.
Harish said that Telangana’s growth can be measured by its per capita income. The per capita income has risen from Rs 1,12,162 in 2014 to Rs 2,65,942 in 2022.
Concluding his address, Harish said that Telangana holds the number one position in agriculture growth rate in South India.
