Electricity plays a key role in the development of the State and Telangana State has made rapid strides in the power sector, said Minister for Agriculture S Niranjan Reddy on Friday.

Speaking at a meeting, shortly after inaugurating the 33/11 kv sub-substation at Uppal village under the Alampur Assembly constituency, the Minister asserted that Telangana would not face a power crisis. There are no power cuts in the State. The State has been striving to provide quality power to all sections of people.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has directed the officials to establish more substations to ensure quality power to people. The 24-hour power supply would help promote all sectors, including industry, business and agriculture. It would employ youth.

Telangana State stood first when it came to per capita power consumption. The credit for achieving success in the power sector should go to the Chief Minister, he said. Most of the States in the country were lagging behind Telangana as far as success in the power sector was concerned.

Though Wanaparthy, Gadwal and Nagarkurnool recorded deficit rainfall, the Vanakalam sowing picked up because of the availability of power round the clock, he said.

Alampur MLA Abraham, Revenue Divisional Office O Chandrakala and others were present.
