Uttam assures people in flood-hit areas of all help

Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Monday assured the people that the government would take steps to plug the breach in Nagarjunasagar left canal at Nidamanur in Nalgonda district.

Kodad MLA Uttam Padmavathi, District Collector Tejas Nandlal Pawar and others were present. Chief Engineer, Irrigation Department, Ramesh Babu and others were also present. He was accompanied by Sai Dharma Teja and others on Monday.
Speaking to the media later, Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy said that it is estimated that crops in about 300 acres of land have been damaged due to the breach to the left canal.
Luckily, the water did not enter the village, he said.
He said that Kodad and Huzurnagar constituencies suffered huge crop loss due to the havoc created by the record rainfall in five decades.
Besides, ponds and wells have also been damaged by the recent rains. The survey will be conducted in two days. “We will discuss the issue of compensation in the Cabinet and announce it,” the Minister said.
He visited the Ramapuram bridge on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada national highway.
Uttam Kumar Reddy directed the officials concerned to take immediate steps to repair the road and restore traffic on the national highway.
