As many as 50 % of the villages in Telangana are not using Vaikunta Dhams (graveyards) due to inadequate supply of electricity and water.
The fact was revealed during a two-day orientation program held by the Telagana Stte Insttitute Rural Development (TSIRD) in Rajendranagar. The program was aimed at training the Zilla Panchayat officers, District Rural Development Officers and Extension Officers.
Addressing the gathering, Telangana State Chief Secretary Shantie Kumari said, “Plants such as Bamboo, teak, godham should be cultivated by farmenrs which would generate revenue for the state. The government will soon take action to increase greenery in the state.”
She further said,” Youth in the villages must be involved in reducing the use of plastic and replace it with jute, At present the state has a green cover of 7.7% which should be increased to 10 % in the next two years.” Kumarie further stressed in expanding the program to each gram Panchayat.
The Chief Secretary also congratulated the 13 panchayats for securing awards in various categories recently.
Earlier, Telangana Rural Development, Errabelli Dayakar Rao stressed on the need for Maintenance of dumping yards, planted and vermicompost for the disposal of dry waste.
