Varsity teachers demand regularisation of services

Universities Teachers Association of Telangana State demanded regularisation of the services of contract teachers (Assistant Professors) in 12 universities.

The Contract teachers working in all 12 Telangana universities have appealed to Chief  Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on regularisation of contract teachers. The members said as per GO No. 16 with February 26, 2016, the government regularised the services of Contract Degree, Polytechnic and Junior College lecturers but not the assistant professors of the 12 universities.

The teachers said, “The prerequisite qualification for Degree and Polytechnic lecturers is to be as per UGC or AICTE norms, similar to the university teachers. We also squarely come under GO No.16 to regularise the services. We, the contract Assistant Professors of the 12 universities of Telangana appeal to the state government to consider the regularisation of services, working against budget sanctioned vacant posts possessing all requisite qualifications as per the UGC or AICTE norms.”

On interrelating with various state governments in the country, the teachers said that various states have regularised the contractual services of the Assistant Professors and part-time lecturers through the special Acts in their respective state Assemblies, for example Government of Karnataka took a decision for University of Mysore and University of Bangalore professors.
