Bhongir Congress MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy filed a complaint with Prime Minister Narendra Modi against the Gurunanak and Sreenidhi Educational institutions on Friday alleging that the TS government gave university status to these educational institutions although they do not meet standards.
Speaking to the media, Venkat said, “I explained to Modi about the loot by private universities in Telangana. The BRS government approved the Private Universities Act–2018. But the government gave university status to ineligible educational institutions without examining quality standards and without verifying facts,” he said.
Venkat said that Gurunanak and Sreenidhi institutions were troubling students in Telangana. In fact, Telangana Governor Dr Tamilisai Sounderarajan did not approve the Bill although the Assembly passed the Bill regarding five private universities.
He said that Gurunanak educational institutions gave admission to 2,800 students and Sreenidhi educational institutions admitted 300 students for the 2022-23 academic year.
But the Governor did not approve the Bill even by the end of the academic year resulting in students losing an academic year. Students, parents and student unions held protests in front of these educational institutions, he said.
Venkat said that he had requested the PM to order an inquiry into the issue by the CBI and the ED and other agencies and that the PM had responded positively.
He also submitted a memorandum to Modi asking him to construct a green field express highway from Malkapur to Vijayawada on NH 65.
