Veteran Telugu Film director Sagar (70) passes away!

Veteran Telugu film director Sagar aka Vidya Sagar Reddy (70) left for hid heavenly abode after battling a long illness. Reportedly, he was reported to be unwell for quite some time and breathed his last at his Chennai residence this early morning.

He started his film career as a film director with ‘Rakasi Loya’ in the year 1983 starring Naresh and Vijaya Shanti in the lead roles. Later he directed several super hit films with happening Telugu actors of his time such as ‘Amma Donga’, ‘Khaidi Brothers’, ‘Stuwartpuram Dongalu’, ‘Rama Sakkanodu’, ‘Action no.1’, ‘Anveshana’, ‘Oosi Naa Maradala’, ‘Daaku’ and other popular films.

Several Tollywood’s present generation directors such as Srinu Vaitla and V.V.Vinayak are said to have been worked under him before they went on to become top directors in Tollywood.

He was 70 years old. He is reported to be born in Guntur in 1952 and worked in various capacities as a film editor and assistant director for many Telugu movies before wielding the MegaPhone in 1983.

His 1991 film ‘Stuvartpuram Dongalu’ is very popular and many Tollywood celebs are mourning his death, His last rites will be reportedly performed in Chennai this evening.

The late director Sagar also served the Telugu directors association as its president for 3 tenures. Etimes Telugu condoles the departed soul…!

Though the hundred crore club is an old buzzword at the Indian box office, it still carries value at the regional box office, as minting Rs 100 crore is not an easy feat for a regional film, due to its reach and language barrier..
