The State Council of Education, Research and Training (SCERT), under the aegis of the School Education Department, will be conducting the Southern India Science Fair (SISF) – 2023-24 in the third week of January next year in Vijayawada. The top 15 individuals, top 10 groups, and the top 10 teachers from each State will be presenting projects at the science fair. Prior to this, the School Education Department has proposed to conduct a State-level science fair in the fourth week of December in Kadapa district.
Commissioner of School Education Department S Suresh Kumar, on Monday, issued certain instructions regarding the conduct of science fairs in the State. These science fairs are being conducted at different levels, i.e. school, mandal, district, and State. All government management high schools in the State will be participating in the fair.
As per the Commissioner’s instructions, State-level science projects will be exhibited at the Southern India Science Fair 2023-24, which will be organised in Vijayawada by the School Education Department of Andhra Pradesh. The top three projects of the district-level fairs will be selected for the State-level science fair.
As part of developing creativity, curiosity and innovation skills among children, different levels of science fairs are conducted in the State. As per the instructions, projects in three categories will be participating in the science fairs. In the group category, two students and a teacher will be allowed. In the individual category, there will be one student and a guide, and only a teacher will be allowed in the third category.
Speaking to ‘The Pioneer’, NTR District Science Officer Mynam Hussain said that the mandal-level and district-level science fairs would be conducted in the second and third weeks of December respectively. After that, the best three projects from the three groups would participate in the state-level science fair that would be conducted in the fourth week of December in the Kadapa district, he said.
He said that this year, the School’s Education Department included eight subjects for the project competitions of all three categories — Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Earth/Space Science, Environmental Science, Engineering, Bioscience/Biochemistry, and Computer Sciences.
