In a step towards sustainable and cleaner port operations, Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) Chairman M Angamuthu flagged off two Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and two Heavy Duty Truck Mounted Road Sweeping Machines on Friday. This groundbreaking initiative marks a significant step in VPA’s Green Port endeavours. The introduction of CNG buses is a first for the port’s automotive fleet, aligning with the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign’s emphasis on promoting environmentally friendly transportation solutions. Dr. Angamuthu, addressing the occasion, highlighted VPA’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and contributing to a cleaner India.
Beyond eco-conscious transportation, VPA is prioritizing port cleanliness with the deployment of Industrial Sweeping Machines. These high-tech machines will ensure impeccable hygiene, particularly at the docks, setting a new standard for port cleanliness. VPA has allocated a total of Rs. 9.68 crores over three years for these projects, demonstrating its unwavering commitment to environmental responsibility. Dr Angamuthu emphasized that these initiatives are crucial for transforming VPA into a global port, one that upholds the highest standards of sustainability and cleanliness.
The launch event, attended by Heads of Departments, Senior Officers, Staff, and other stakeholders, underscored the collective effort behind making Vizag Port a frontrunner in green and sustainable port practices.
The CNG buses and Industrial Sweeping Machines symbolize VPA’s significant strides towards a cleaner, greener, and globally competitive port infrastructure. This news signifies a positive step forward for Visakhapatnam Port and potentially paves the way for greener port operations across India. By prioritizing both environmental responsibility and operational efficiency, VPA is setting a commendable example for other ports to follow.
