In a bid to improve sports infrastructure and promote an active lifestyle, GVMC Commissioner CM Saikanth Varma announced plans to construct indoor stadiums in each zone, commencing with Zone 2 in Arilova. A vacant 2.8-acre plot near Health City in Zone 2, Ward 13, has been earmarked for the construction of a modern indoor stadium. Commissioner Verma emphasized the need for a facility that caters to the diverse needs of the local population while ensuring the preservation of existing greenery. Supervisor Engineer Samson Raju has been entrusted with the responsibility of developing a comprehensive plan for the stadium, prioritizing both functionality and environmental sustainability.
Recognising the importance of public parks for recreation and community engagement, the GVMC plans to transform vacant space near Srikanth Nagar Layout in Ward 12 into a vibrant park. Supervisor Engineer Samson Raju will spearhead the assessment of the space and design a park that fosters leisure activities and strengthens community bonds. Beyond sports and recreation, the GVMC plans to expedite the ongoing 60-foot road widening and culvert construction projects from Pedagadili to Thotaguru in Ward 12, aiming to improve traffic flow and connectivity. Health Officer Kishore will oversee regular cleaning activities within the Health City area, ensuring a hygienic and healthy environment for the community.
These initiatives underscore the GVMC’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the quality of life for Visakhapatnam residents. By prioritizing the development of accessible sports facilities, green spaces, and improved infrastructure, the Corporation aims to foster a city that prioritizes physical well-being, environmental consciousness, and community engagement. This strategic plan marks a significant step towards transforming Visakhapatnam into a city that not only prioritizes physical well-being but also invests in creating a sustainable and inclusive urban environment for all.
