VMC drops plan to instal water meters on taps

Must read

CPM State secretariat member Ch Babu Rao has stated that the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation has backtracked on the decision to install meters for the drinking water taps. As a result of the people’s agitation, the VMC has stopped the installation of about one lakh water meters in the city, he said.
CPM leader Babu Rao visited Madhurana Nagar, Pasupu Thota and other areas where the VMC authorities had installed water meters earlier. Speaking on the occasion, Babu Rao said it was the victory of the people’s agitation without which, the VMC would not have taken the decision. CPM had also fought against the installation of water meters in the VMC council meeting, he added.
Also, he said the VMC installed these water meters in the name of the Central government’s Amrith scheme. CPM will include the issue of water meters as a people’s agenda in the coming elections. If the government takes any further step in this regard, the party will restart agitations, he warned.
The CPM leader added that the VMC had planned to install water meters in one lakh houses in Vijayawada. Now, the VMC authorities have removed around 600 water meters. If YSRCP people’s representatives make any attempts to install meters, the party will prevent them, he explained.
CPM leaders B Ramana Rao, P Krishna Murthy, Y Krishna, B Chinna, Ramu, M Rama Rao, Nagaraju, Murali and others were also present.
