YSRTP President YS Sharmila said that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao should waive the loans of 31 lakh Telangana farmers immediately. She said that KCR waived the bank loans of only 5.66 farmers till now. In a statement issued on Tuesday, Sharmila said that a leader must stick to his word but KCR never sticks to his words. She said that KCR had given an assurance that he will waive the bank loans of farmers but he failed to fulfil his assurance even after four years of being in power.
KCR deceived farmers saying that he will waive loans in a phased manner. But he waived the loans of farmers which were less than Rs 37,000 and that too of only 5.66 lakh farmers, Sharmila said.
She said that due to KCR’s refusal to waive loans 9,000 Telangana farmers committed suicide in the last nine years. KCR is not helping farmers even though banks are hounding them. Banks have been branding farmers as defaulters but there is no response from KCR, she said.
“Branding farmers as defaulters might be the first in the history of the nation,” she pointed out.
Sharmila said that KCR allotted Rs 26,000 crore for the loan waiver scheme but spent only Rs 1,200 crore. She said the credit of diverting funds meant for loan waiver goes to KCR.
She recalled that YSR fulfilled his assurance to waive loans within a year of coming to power.
Sharmila asked KCR to apologise to all farmers as his BRS government had failed to fulfil the assurance to waive farm loans. She asked KCR, who is roaming across the nation with the slogan ‘Abki Baar Kisan Sarkar’ to fulfil his promise first in Telangana.
