Warangal Task Force police on Tuesday arrested 11 persons on the charge of selling spurious and expired pesticides and machinery used for manufacturing pesticides. The police also arrested two more persons on the charge of selling prohibited herbicides. The value of seized pesticides, herbicides and machinery have been assessed at 57 lakh, according to Warangal Police Commissioner AV Ranganath.
The Police Commissioner told the media that the 11 persons arrested belonged to three separate gangs. The police carried out a series of raids and seized the spurious pesticides, herbicides and machinery for manufacturing these products and also literature.
The police investigation, Ranganath said, had revealed that the arrested persons had sold the spurious pesticide and herbicides in the neighbourhood of Narasmpet.
The police conducted a raid on a house in Maheswaram village Thand and found big drums and another production facility for manufacturing pesticides. The house belonged to Bhukya Rathod. The police found to their shock that the house was converted into a manufacturing unit, he said.
The accused sourced raw materials for manufacturing pesticides from Hyderabad.
