The human mind is conditioned to think constantly, something that cannot be stopped. Thought becomes words, and these words then become actions. The problem lies today, where, for whatever reason—insecurity, fear factor, or even complacency—we have stopped talking and expressing ourselves.
And this is where The Big Small Talk comes into the picture. It is a space where one can openly discuss any topic under the sun. It is not your typical podcast; it’s a refreshing dive into life’s seemingly insignificant moments that hold profound significance in our collective experiences. Anuj Sawhney, Managing Director of Swiss Military Worldwide and former Bollywood actor, along with his childhood best friend, Manav Subodh, Founder of 1M1B (One Million for One Billion), are the brains to introduce a game-changer in the podcasting world. It is meaningful, relatable, and as real as it gets!
Well, we have with us Anuj and MD of Swiss Military onboard today, who begin this interesting chat sharing, “These topics are endless and range from faking ourselves, fear factors, generational gaps, lack of empathy, role of rumours and even the so-called “taboo” topics. We invite regular people from all walks of life to share their experiences and join us on a journey of reflection and exploration.”
He has had this idea germinating inside for years, and at the same time, it was frustrating to observe so much happening around him. “I kept wondering why no one ever talks about it. All my research led only to “spiritual” pursuits, which didn’t help me in all the tribulations one goes through leading our day-to-day lives,” he recalls, adding, “I kept finding a way to express all that was brewing inside me. When I met my childhood best friend again after many years and expressed this burning desire, we decided to share our stories together. That’s when the idea for The Big Small Talk podcast was born. We wanted to create a space where we could discuss everything from the mundane to the meaningful, all while keeping it real and relatable. And what better way to mark the occasion than by launching it on my 50th birthday? It felt like the perfect time to take the plunge into the world of podcasting. So here we are, excited to embark on this journey together, and we can’t wait to see where it takes us.” Inviting diverse guests for the duo has been instrumental in enriching the content and perspective of the podcast. He enlightens, “When we welcome guests from various backgrounds, professions, and life experiences, we are able to explore a wide range of topics and offer fresh insights into everyday nuances. Each guest brings their unique perspective to the table, sparking engaging conversations and challenging our own viewpoints. Whether it’s discussing personal anecdotes, sharing professional expertise, or exploring cultural differences, the diversity of our guests has allowed us to delve deeper into the complexities of daily life. Ultimately, this diversity enriches the podcast by offering a broader, more inclusive understanding of the world around us.”
Striking a balance between addressing serious topics and infusing humour into their discussions is something they take very seriously on the podcast. “We believe that humour can be a powerful tool for connecting with our audience and making complex topics more approachable. However, we also recognise the importance of tackling serious issues with sensitivity and empathy. Our approach is to blend humour with thoughtful insights and personal anecdotes, allowing us to explore a wide range of topics while keeping the conversation engaging and relatable. By maintaining this balance, we aim to create a podcast that is both entertaining and thought-provoking, offering our listeners a blend of laughter and reflection,” he shares, adding that maintaining a non-judgmental atmosphere is one of our top priorities on podcasts.
If you wondered what sets The Big Small Talk apart from other podcasts, he shared that it is the genre that’s the unique elements and approaches they bring to the table. Firstly, “We focus on delving into life’s seemingly insignificant moments, offering a fresh perspective on the nuances of daily life. While other podcasts may tackle grand themes headline-grabbing celebrities, we celebrate the profound impact of the seemingly trivial, finding meaning in the mundane that impacts each and every one of us. Additionally, we are driven by genuine connections and meaningful conversations. As childhood best friends, Manav and I bring a unique dynamic to the show, fostering an authentic rapport that resonates with our audience. Ultimately, it’s this blend of honesty, wit, and humour that sets The Big Small Talk apart, offering listeners a delightful addition to the podcasting landscape.”
