Tamil star Dhanush, who enjoys a massive fan following across the South and in Bollywood, is now gearing up for the release of his multilingual film Kubera. Directed by Sekhar Kammula, the film also stars Nagarjuna in a pivotal role, with Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead. The team was in Mumbai for a song launch event where Dhanush spoke candidly about the film and his experience working on it.
“This film is very close to my heart and a special one for me,” Dhanush shared. “Shooting this was a fantastic experience, and we were all very happy throughout the process. A film like this truly deserves to be promoted the way it is.”
When asked about his role, the actor revealed, “I play a beggar. If I say I did a lot of homework and research for the role, that would be a complete lie. I didn’t do anything. I simply followed my director Sekhar Kammula on the sets—he made life very easy for me. This role is unlike anything I’ve done before.”
Speaking highly of Kammula, Dhanush added, “Sekhar sir is a fantastic human being with such a good heart. In this industry, you meet many people, but when you come across someone like Sekhar, the journey becomes worthwhile. He narrated the story to me in just 20 minutes, and I immediately agreed to do it.”
Sharing a quirky behind-the-scenes story, Dhanush said, “Rashmika and I shot for a sequence in a dump yard for nearly six to seven hours. I asked her if the smell didn’t bother her, and she said she couldn’t smell anything! I still don’t understand how.” The actor said the shoot reminded him of his humble beginnings. “I know where I came from, and this film took me right back there. It was very enlightening and nostalgic—it brought back so many memories from my childhood.”

On how he manages to take on such diverse roles in each film, Dhanush quipped, “I’m like a computer processor—I need data to function. My directors feed me that data, and I simply process it.”
