Will the national party tag help the BRS to win more seats in the next Lok Sabha elections?
BRS President Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao wants to play a key role in national politics after LS elections. For this, the BRS must win more seats in the next Lok Sabha elections than last time.
There is a general opinion that during Lok Sabha elections people prefer national parties. The last Telangana Assembly election and Lok Sabha election results in prove this.
In 2018, in the Telangana Assembly elections, the BRS won 88 seats out of 119 seats. The Congress won 21 and the BJP won only a single seat. The Lok Sabha elections were held within six months after the Telangana Assembly elections.
Going by Assembly election results the BJP had no chance in the Lok Sabha elections. But within six months voters changed their minds surprising political observers.
The BJP won four Lok Sabha seats although they had won only one seat in the Assembly elections which were held just six months ago.
In the same way, the Congress could win only three Lok Sabha seats although they won 21 seats in the Assembly elections. The ruling BRS (at that time TRS) won nine Lok Sabha seats and 88 Assembly seats.
This means that people are voting differently in Assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
During Lok Sabha elections people prefer national parties and in Assembly elections, they prefer regional parties if they are strong enough.
During the last Lok Sabha elections it was TRS, a regional party, and now the TRS was changed into a national party named BRS. BRS circles think that the national tag of their party will help to win more LS seats.
If the BRS retains power in the Assembly elections and wins more seats than in the last Lok Sabha elections it will certainly help to enhance the image of KCR at the national level.
