Woman killed as overhead water tank collapses

One woman was killed and two others were injured when an overhead tank caved in on them at Dupadu village in Tripurantakam mandal on Tuesday.

Police said that a group of women stood at the tank to draw water. Suddenly, the overhead tank collapsed killing Singa Narayanamma (45). Two women were injured in the incident and were admitted to the GGH in Vinukonda. The condition of one of the injured women is said to be very critical.

The villagers alleged that the overhead tank was constructed using poor-quality material which is why it collapsed. The villagers demanded the government take stringent action against the contractor for using sub-standard construction material which led to the collapse of the tank killing one woman and injuring two. They said that sand was brought from the Gundlakamma canal which was not fit to use in construction. The police registered a case and are investigating.
