Works worth Rs 150 cr being carried out in city: Civic chief

Municipal Commissioner Keerthi Chekuri said that Rs 150 crore worth development works were being carried out in the city including construction of drains and roads.

The municipal Commissioner inspected the quality of 600 metre CC road being constructed at a cost of Rs 50 lakh at th 1 st line at Brodipet here on Wednesday. She inspected the quality of the road and took measurements of the width of the road.Keerthi Chekuri said that Rs 150 crore worth development works were being carried out in the 57 wards in the city of which Rs 70 crore was allocated for the construction of drains and roads.

The Commissioner said that in every ward of the city, the reconstruction of many roads had been pending for a long time and were causing problems for people. Now the construction of roads and the CC drains were being carried out on priority basis.

The works are being monitored from time to time and special measures are being taken to speed up the works, she added.

She directed the amenity secretaries and engineering officers to monitor the speed of the works and ensure that the quality standards are followed.

Keerthi Chekuri said that CC Road is being constructed on a high priority basis at Brodipet 1st line and Sadaru Road is the road connecting the main areas.

She instructed the officials to inspect the quality and dimensions of the CC road and record the various stages of the work in the Y.Book and maintain a file with photos of the work done at all stages. She warned that action would be taken against the contractor as well as engineering officials and amenity secretaries if any quality defects are found in the works.The secretaries should always monitor the works and provide details on the progress of the works to the engineering officers. Later the building, applied for occupancy certificate at Brindavan Gardens Main Road was inspected by the Commissioner.

Keerthi Chekuri also inspected the setbacks, ramp, cellar, road widening portion. The Planning Secretary was directed to ensure that the construction of the building is carried out as per the sanctioned plan. Builders must check the vacant land tax payment receipt at the time of applying for building permission, she told them. City planner Murthy, EE Sundarami Reddy and DEE Md. Rafiq were among those who accompanied her.
