State Panchayat Raj, Rural Development and Women and Child Welfare Minister Dr. Dhanasari Anasuya (Seethakka) clarified that her government is working for the development of tribals. She said Rs 17,000 crore has been allocated for the welfare of STs in the budget like never before. Unlike the previous government, she assured that the budget funds allotted to the tribals will be spent for their development.
On the occasion of World Adivasi Day, Assembly Speaker Prasad Kumar, along with Minister Seethakka, attended a meeting organised by the Tribal Welfare department at Komaram Bheem Adivasi Building in Banjara Hills.
Artists welcomed the Minister with traditional adivasi instruments and dances. She saw the exhibition of tribal art organised there and paid tributes to the tribal warriors Kumaram Bheem and Ranji with flowers.
First generation freedom fighter Aradyam Ranji Gond unveiled a huge portrait of Adivasis. The tribal students who showed exceptional talent in the NEET examinations were specially honoured. The students who showed their skills in sports were felicitated. Small traders doing business under the name of Adivasi Foods were also honoured.
Minister Seethakka explained the injustices done to the tribals by the previous government and the welfare programmes undertaken by her government for the tribals.
She said that it is commendable that the adivasis who live somewhere in the corners of the hills and at the bends of the streams have risen to the level of discussing their rights in cities like Hyderabad.
The Minister said that the tribes have not developed to the expected level. The oppression of ethnic groups continued for generations.
Seethakka expressed displeasure that the Agency areas remained far from development due to the negligent attitude of the BRS in the last 10 years. She said that every rupee allocated in the budget will be spent in the agency areas and tribal villages to support the development of the tribal people.
