Drawing attention to the significant amount of Rs 90 crore refunded to cyber crime victims in thousands of cyber crime cases by the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau team, Director General of Police Dr Jitender appreciated the Cyber Security Bureau for the proactive response to the cybe crime in the State. He was the chief guest at the inauguration of the Great AppSec Hackathon 2024 at the ICCC Telangana State Police Command and Control Centre on Friday.
The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau, in collaboration with the Cyber Security Centre of Excellence (CCOE) and the Data Security Council of India (DSIC), launched the Great AppSec Hackathon 2024. This event will see participation from 10,000 people from across 29 Indian states and over 20 countries, emphasising the importance of cyber security in today’s world.
Addressing the inaugural, Jitender highlighted that the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau is unique, as it’s the only one of its kind in any Indian state. The Bureau is proactive in ensuring the safety and security of citizens, responding effectively to cyber crimes. He mentioned that in the past year, the Bureau has saved over Rs 150 crore, which were frozen in various banks due to the efforts of the Cyber Security team. Jitender appreciated the Director of the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau, DGP Shikha Goel, for the Cyber Security team’s quick responses to cyber crime cases, reinforcing public confidence in the police. He also called the hackathon an outstanding initiative, engaging young minds in real-world problem-solving.
Speaking on the occasion, DGP Shikha Goel said that several researches from across the globe highlighted that there is significant relation to education and vulnerability, which is not true in cyber crime, as 70% of cybercrime victims are educated, with 56% being IT professionals and software engineers. She expressed hope that solutions from the hackathon would significantly impact cybersecurity in the State and the country.
