Even though Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is keen on giving another chance to sitting MLAs the average age of most of them is almost near retirement.
An analysis of the age of 103 BRS leaders by ‘The Pioneer’ showed that their average comes to 58.33 years. Only four leaders are below 40, namely Gadari Kishore, Haripriya Banoth, Pilot Rohit Reddy and Nomula Bhagat.
14 sitting MLAs are 40 to 49 years old. 50 MLAs are 50 to 59 years old and 34 MLAs are 60 to 69 years old. 16 MLAs are 70 years and above.
The BRS leadership seems to be clear on the section of population it wants and evidently has been reportedly ignoring youth not only within the party but also the state.
It may be mentioned here that the average age of the 2018 Assembly has increased by three years compared to the 2014 Assembly. The number of young members in the 25 to 40 age group has decreased to five in 2018 from 12 in 2018.
Despite claiming to win a third time, the party is unlikely to give any opportunity to new faces. The party after successfully conducting Athmeeya Sammelanam was supposed to conduct Yuvajana Sammelanam.
While initially the party claimed that they would organise these meetings after the academic year begins, sources said that it will not see daylight.
The revamp of the BRS student and youth wings also remains a stalemate. The party is continuing with Gellu Srinivas as the BRSV president and the BRS Yuvajana Vibhagham doesn’t even have a committee.
Young BRS leaders are continuing as politicians with no experience. Ironically, in June Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao laid the foundation stone for the ‘Bharat Bhavan Centre for Excellence and Human Resource Development’ in Kokapet. This was supposed to train and groom BRS leaders and politicians. There is no word on unemployment allowance from KCR who is now on a spree of implementing his other promises.
