YSRCP MLA Arthur joins Congress

Must read

The YSRCP faced a setback on Tuesday as its Nandikotkur MLA, Arthur Thoguru, announced his departure from the party, opting instead to join the Congress.
Arthur made his move official in the presence of APCC president YS Sharmila, who formally welcomed him into the Congress fold by adorning him with the party’s scarf. Having secured victory in the 2019 elections for the Nandikotkur Assembly constituency, Arthur’s defection marks a notable shift in local political dynamics.
The decision comes amidst reports of growing discord between Arthur and Byreddy Siddharth Reddy, with Chief Minister and YSRCP leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy appointing Dr Sudheer Dhara as the new in-charge of Nandikotkur several months prior. It’s understood that Arthur’s exclusion from the party’s ticket allocation, in favour of Dara Sudhir, further fueled his disillusionment with the YSRCP leadership.
Expressing his dismay at the turn of events, Arthur Thoguru formally resigned from the YSRCP, opting to align himself with the Congress party. This development follows closely on the heels of Kurnool MP Sanjiv Kumar’s recent departure from the YSRCP, who chose to join the ranks of the TDP.
