Tension prevailed in Gannavaram as YSRCP activists ransacked the TDP office on Monday evening. Acrimonious scenes were witnessed as TDP leaders and Gannavaram MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi entered into a wordy duel, leading to violent incidents.
TDP leaders said that Vamshi followers went to the house of TDP State secretary Dontu Chinna in Gannavaram and warned his family members of dire consequences.
The TDP workers went to the Gannavaram police station to lodge a complaint against MLA Vamsi.
At the same time, a group of furious followers of MLC Vamsi, barged into the TDP office, ransacked the office, destroyed the furniture, and smashed the glass doors. Later they set fire to a car in front of the office. The car was completely burnt down in the incident. A woman TDP activist told the media that she was hit on her face and suffered an injury on her lips by the Vamsi followers.
Meanwhile, a large number of TDP activists rushed there and stone-pelting incidents took place between the TDP and YSRCP activists. The police resorted to the lathi charge to disperse the clashing activists.
Knowing the incident, former minister Devineni Umamaheshwara Rao and spokesperson Pattabhi went to Gannavaram and the police arrested them.
The police whisked away Pattabhi from the place. The whereabouts of Pattabhi are not known, the TDP leaders told the media.
The TDP activists led by Telugu Mahila state general secretary Mulpuri Sai Kalyani staged a rasta roko on the busy Chennai-Kolkata highway resulting in vehicles getting stranded up to 3 km on either side of the road.
Talking to the media, Chandana, the wife of Pattabhi, alleged that her husband is in the custody of the police. She said that the Chief Minister and DGP were responsible if anything happened to her husband. Following the violent incidents and tense situation prevailed in Gannavaram and additional forces were deployed to Gannavaram.
The TDP leaders alleged that Gannavaram TDP rebel MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi was involved in the multilevel marketing scam. Vamsi moved the court and filed a defamation case also.
Against this backdrop, the TDP and the YSRCP leaders levelled charges against each other.
The TDP local leaders alleged the followers of Vallabhaneni Vamsi had attacked the TDP office. Vamsi warned the YSRCP workers would not tolerate the baseless allegations levelled against him by the TDP leaders. He said the TDP leaders made personal comments against him on changing the party from the TDP to YSRCP.
He made it clear that he had no connection with the ‘Sankalpa Siddhi’ company, which collected money from the local people and cheated. Vamsi said it was a big scam and he has nothing to do. Vamsi alleged the TDP leaders were resorting to Character assassination and he moved court against the TDP leaders.
