Minister for Transport Ponnam Prabhakar said that 275 new buses were ordered by the TSRTC, in addition to the 1,000 new buses will be coming onto the road by July-end. On Wednesday he said at his office, “The Mahalakshmi scheme was implemented as soon as the Congress government was formed as per the promise made in the elections. TSRTC launched 80 buses in December. Free bus travel for women under this scheme is very successful.”
“So far nearly 9 crore women have travelled under this scheme. After implementing the Mahalakshmi scheme passengers percentage has increased. In order to reduce the increasing burden on buses we have ordered 275 buses. We have taken steps to ensure that the passengers should not face any difficulties,” he said.
Meanwhile, Minister Prabhakar has instructed the TSRTC officials to fill the conductor posts under compassionate appointments to the heirs of the personnel who died on duty. In all, 813 people are ready to be hired as conductors under compassionate appointments.
After 10 years, the government has been recruiting under compassionate appointments. Minister Prabhakar said, “Within a month of the government coming to power, we have taken up the conductor appointments which have been pending for 10 years. Orders have been issued to the officials to appoint 813 conductors. With this, justice will be done to the families who have been waiting for compassionate appointments for many years.”
Under the BreadWinner (Compassionate Appointments) and Medical Invalidation Scheme, jobs are provided to the spouse or children of the employees as per their educational qualifications to provide alternative employment.
The corporation will fill 66 conductors posts in Hyderabad, 126 in Secunderabad, 52 conductor posts from Ranga Reddy, 56 in Nalgonda, 83 in Mahabubnagar, 93 in Medak, 99 in Warangal, 53 in Khammam, 71 in Adilabad, 69 in Nizamabad and 45 in Karimnagar
