Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has assured that the alliance government will support handloom workers in the State. He said that the previous YSRCP government cancelled all the schemes meant for handloom workers. The coalition government will take measures to increase their income.
CM Chandrababu participated in the National Handloom Day celebration organised at Maris Stella College auditorium here on Wednesday. He visited the stalls and spoke to the handloom workers. The CM bought two sarees for his wife Bhuvaneswari.
Addressing the gathering, the CM announced that a resolution will be passed in the Assembly to implement 33 percent reservation for the backward classes in the Legislature. He added that he will fight to make it a law in the Parliament. He also gave a call to the people to wear handloom garments at least once in a month.
The CM said: “Justice will be done to BCs in nominated posts. A BC was given the post of TDP State president. TDP has been giving the BCs top positions in the cabinet and the BCs have been with the party since the beginning. We will bring reservations again in local bodies. We will adopt a comprehensive approach to support the handloom sector. We will enhance the skills of artisans and give them training. We will provide them with health insurance and try to revoke GST for handloom workers. Steps will be taken to reimburse if GST is not revoked. Justice will be done to the weavers by giving them Rs 67 crore.
“A system will be set up where the weavers work collectively. The government will support weavers by releasing Rs 50,000 for handlooms. It is our responsibility to protect the handloom industry and give a call to everyone to wear handloom clothes at least once a month. The government will provide free electricity to handloom workers through solar power panels and also support them through online marketing. We will provide 200 units of free electricity to handloom families. In view of environmental protection, we will promote natural colours in handloom,” said Chandrababu.
