Andhra Loyola College organised an awareness programme on ‘Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’ on the college campus on Wednesday. The Director General of Police (DGP), Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, attended the programme as the chief guest.
In a symbolic gesture of commitment, a pledge was taken by all attendees to work towards a drug-free country. The programme saw the participation of around 1,000 students in person, with another 2,500 students watching the event via live telecast from their classrooms.
Addressing the gathering, DGP Tirumala Rao encouraged students to take an active role in spreading awareness and supporting friends and peers who might be struggling with substance abuse. He emphasised the theme “The Evidence is Clear: Invest in Prevention” and highlighted the importance of proactive measures in combating drug abuse.
He spoke passionately about the government’s comprehensive strategy, which includes educational initiatives, community outreach programs, and stringent law enforcement actions. DGP Tirumala Rao pointed out that students are among the most powerful elements in society who can lead the change toward a drug-free State.
Further, he stressed that their involvement and vigilance could significantly reduce the spread of drug abuse. He also warned of the serious consequences faced by those involved in drug-related activities, noting that the government is committed to taking strict actions against users and traffickers to ensure public safety and health.
