A total of 4,22,355 pucca houses have been constructed under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U)’ in Andhra Pradesh over the past three years. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has been providing Central assistance under this scheme since June 25, 2015, with the aim of providing durable houses to all eligible urban beneficiaries. An amount of Rs 11,273.55 crore from the Central assistance fund has been utilised for constructing the pucca houses in Andhra Pradesh during the three-year period.
This information was disclosed by Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Kaushal Kishore, in the Rajya Sabha on Monday in response to a question posed by RS MP Parimal Nathwani.
The PMAY-U scheme encompasses four components: Beneficiary-Led Individual House Construction or Enhancement (BLC), Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), ‘In-situ’ Slum Redevelopment (ISSR), and Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS). The Beneficiary-Led Individual house Construction or Enhancement (BLC) and Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP) components cater to beneficiaries from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) with an annual household income of up to Rs 3 lakh. On the other hand, the Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS) extends its support to beneficiaries having an annual household income of up to Rs 18 lakh.
In response to Nathwani’s query, the Minister provided further details on the overall progress of PMAY-U across the nation. An impressive 118.90 lakh houses have been sanctioned under PMAY-U, involving a substantial Central Assistance amount of approximately Rs 2.00 lakh crore. Among the sanctioned houses, 112.22 lakh houses have already commenced construction, out of which 75.31 lakh houses have been completed and delivered as of 10.07.2023. Over the course of implementation, the scheme has received Central Assistance funds amounting to Rs 1.47 lakh crore.
The initiative has made remarkable strides in ensuring housing facilities for the economically weaker sections in urban areas, and the successful execution of PMAY-U in Andhra Pradesh stands as a testament to its effectiveness in addressing housing needs across the nation.
