50 students suffer as gas leaks in college

Over 50 students became sick after a gas leak in the laboratory of Kasturba Gandhi College on Friday. Students suffered from breathlessness, vomiting sensation and sour throat. The incident happened in the afternoon while students were in the Chemistry lab in the second floor.

One of victims Janhavi said, “We, the degree students were in the sports ground and saw Intermediate students suddenly rushing out holding their heads. We immediately ran to help them and we also fell sick. Students were admitted to the hospital, but later sent home as their condition improved.”

The college management has declared a holiday on Saturday. “Some of the students of Kasturibha Gandhi Degree and Junior College were having their lunch in the second floor when suddenly some foul smell was spreading in the rooms.

Around 50 students felt breathless, sour throat and vomiting sensation. Immediately police rushed to the spot and shifted the students to Geetha Nursing Home,” said DCP North Zone.

The clues team ascertained that the reason for the foul smell was lifting of garbage nearby, around the same time. So far no complaints have been received and all the students are safe,” the police added.
