The Sikhs will celebrate the 555th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Devji from November 11 to 15 with grand processions in Hyderabad and Secunderabad. This major Sikh festival, “Sri Guru Nanak Devji birthday celebrations (Prakash Utsav),” honours the first Sikh Guru who spread peace and harmony world-wide.
To mark the occasion, the Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha and Gurudwara Saheb Secunderabad committees are collaborating for grand celebrations. Two grand processions, “Nagar Keertans,” will occur: the first on November 11 at 4 pm, starting from Gurudwara Saheb Secunderabad, and the second on November 13 at 4 pm, beginning from Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha, Afzalgunj.
Prabhandak Committee presidents S Baldev Singh Bagga (GSS) and S Satvinder Singh Bagga (GSGSS) announced that thousands will participate, with the revered Guru Granth Sahibji carried in a decorated vehicle, accompanied by “Nishaan sahebans” (religious flags). The processions will feature Shabad Keertans and displays of ‘Gatka,’ a traditional Sikh martial art.
The committee also announced that the main event, ‘Vishaal Deewan’ (mass congregation), will be held on November 15 at the Exhibition Grounds, Nampally. Renowned Ragi Jathas will recite Gurbani keertans and attendees can enjoy a free ‘Guru Ka Langar’ (community meal).
