Minister for Health, Medical and Family Welfare Vidala Rajini said that the distribution of B12 tablets to anaemic people should be started as a pilot project as per the instructions of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Minister Rajini held a review on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) with the senior officials of the department on Wednesday.

On the occasion, she said the State should be at the forefront in the country in terms of achieving SDG and it was the responsibility of the officials concerned. There is a need to work together to prevent anaemia among adolescent girls, pregnant women and infants. Actions should be taken to distribute B-12 tablets to them. If these medicines can be provided as a course for three months to them, anaemia can be prevented.

The minister said that the State was a step ahead in the prevention of mother and child mortality and it played a key role in SDG. The officials should take more measures to prevent them. As of now in AP, about 99.66 per cent deliveries take place in the hospitals, which is a good sign. She instructed the officials to achieve the target of 100 per cent deliveries in hospitals. She also instructed the officials to conduct a meeting with the School Education Department officials on the distribution of sanitary napkins and also to distribute them among Intermediate students.

She instructed officials to ensure the best medical services to pregnant women so they give birth to healthy babies and instructed the officials to consider the use of Talli Bidda Express vehicles to shift the pregnant women to the hospitals. The minister also instructed them to take steps to conduct medical tests immediately for everyone who visited hospitals for tuberculosis (TB).

Principal Secretary (HM&FW) MT Krishna Babu, Commissioner for Health and Family Welfare J Nivas, Director for Health Dr Rami Reddy and others were present.
