Adivasi associations demand fast-track court to trial accused

Must read

Leaders of several Adivasi associations have urged District Superintendent of DV Srinivasa Rao to ensure that Adivasis are not arrested in connection with the violence that took place in Jainoor recently.  They urged him to recommend setting up fast-track court to punish the man accused of attempting to assault a woman.
They met the Superintendent of Police at the district police headquarters here on Saturday and said that the Adivasis have been trying to protect their lands and waging struggles for it for the past 40 years. However, non-tribals have been violating the Schedule-5 rules and indulging in atrocities on the Adivasis. Series of atrocities had been committed on the Adivasis for the past several years but only some of them came to light, they lamented.
The recent attempt to rape of an Adivasi woman triggered arson and vandalism in Jainoor town, they said.
Outsiders have been perpetrating atrocities on the Adivasis, rendering injustice to them, exploiting them and inducing the Adivasi girls to marry them to grab the lands in Agency areas. The non-tribals by virtue of marrying tribal women have been obtaining loans under TRICOR and meting out injustice to the tribals.
The Jainoor town developed commercially in many  respects. However, the non-tribals have been establishing their businesses here and selling the counterfeit products to loot the tribals.
There was no action in spite of bringing the injustice being caused to the Adivasis for the past four decades, they said attributing the purpose of the struggles waged by them was to protect their identity.
They urged the police officer to stop arresting the Adivasis for what they did acting on the spur of the moment.  So far, 18 Adivasis were taken into custody, they said, appealing to the Superintendent of Police to stop the arrests out of humanitarian consideration.
They demanded that the police to take stern action against the Shaik Maqdoom who tried to outrage the modesty of an Adivasi woman and made an attempt on her life.  They sought the authorities to set up fast-track court to ensure that the accused is punished as early as possible.
District Roy Center Sir Medi Motiram, MLA Kova Lakshmi, former MLA AtramSakku, Tudum Debba state president BurasaPochaiah, Raj Gond Seva Samiti president Madavi Srinivas and others were prominent among those who called on the SP.
