Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu convened a review meeting at the Undavalli CM Camp Office to address two deeply concerning incidents involving young girls in the erstwhile Anantapur district. The Chief Minister reviewed the murder of an intermediate student in Anantapur town and the rape of a minor girl in Yedugurallapalli, Ramagiri Mandal, Sri Sathya Sai District.

The Director-General of Police (DGP) and other senior officials briefed the Chief Minister on the progress of investigations in both cases. Mr Naidu was informed that the victim in Anantapur, identified as Tanmayi, was murdered by an acquaintance. In the Yeduguri Allapalli case, a group of individuals had reportedly subjected a minor girl to repeated sexual assaults over an extended period, a truly distressing crime. The Chief Minister expressed profound anguish over the incidents.

After a thorough understanding of the case details, he emphasised the urgent need for the perpetrators to be punished without delay. He instructed officials to expedite investigations, file charge sheets promptly, and ensure the trials are concluded as quickly as possible. Naidu stressed that robust evidence must be meticulously gathered to secure the harshest possible punishment for the accused.

The Chief Minister directed the Police department to deal sternly with crimes against women, asserting that the state must instil fear in the minds of potential offenders regarding swift and strict law enforcement action. He underscored the necessity of sending a clear message that punishment is inevitable, regardless of whether a crime is committed in a fit of rage, under the influence of drugs like ganja, or in a premeditated manner.

He further stated that not only these two cases, but any instance of violence, abuse, or sexual assault against women must be met with decisive police action that sends an unequivocal signal to society. Referring to the previous administration, the Chief Minister remarked that for five years, there was a perceived lack of control over criminals, and due to a widespread drug and ganja culture, many offenders acted with impunity. He observed that even now, some individuals have not reformed their criminal behaviour.

He issued strict instructions to crack down on ganja gangs, affirming that the police are being granted complete operational freedom. “A 100% visible change must be achieved,” he asserted.

Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand, DGP Harish Kumar Gupta, Intelligence Chief Mahesh Chandra Laddha, and other senior officials participated in the review meeting.
