AP HC advocates protest against transfer of 2 judges

Andhra Pradesh High Court advocates boycotted duties in protest against the transfer of High Court judges. The advocates alleged that the transfer proposal of High Court judges was a sign of discrimination. Advocates protested the transfer of AP High Court judges Justice Battu Devanand and Justice D Ramesh on Friday.

The Supreme Court collegium headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Thursday recommended the transfer of seven High Court Judges, including two from Andhra Pradesh High Court, three from Telangana, and two from Madras High Court.

On Friday, the lawyers protested the recommendation for the transfer of AP High Court judges saying it is improper and a sign of discrimination. The advocates stated that they will continue their protest until the decision is rolled back and recalled that the collegium had withheld the transfer of a Gujarat High Court Judge after such a protest. The lawyers strongly condemn the transfers and they should be withdrawn. From AP High Court Justice Devanand was recommended for transfer to Madras High Court and Justice D Ramesh was recommended for transfer to Allahabad High Court.

Justices VM Velumani and T Raja of the Madras High Court have been transferred to the Calcutta and Rajasthan High Courts, respectively. Justices A Abhishek Reddy, Lalitha Kanneganti, D Nagarjun of the Telangana High Court have been transferred to the Patna, Karnataka and Madras High Courts, respectively.
