640 held in drive against liquor, ganja

The Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) registered 640 cases and arrested 701 people during weeklong inspections conducted from November 18 to 24 against illegal liquor across Andhra Pradesh. SEB Commissioner Ravisankar Ayyanar said that the SEB had taken key steps to restrain the illegal liquor and ganja menace. He said that strict and regular checks were being conducted at all borders in the State to prevent liquor smuggling.

The SEB Commissioner said that with the establishment of surveillance using the latest technology, the SEC had intensified patrols to curb illegal liquor and ganja transportation. He said that the SEB was conducting surprise inspections which were helping to curb the illegal liquor menace. He said that under the supervision of DIG Ramesh Reddy, the SEB conducted surprise checks from November 18 to 24 all over AP State during which SEB seized 3,622 liters of ID liquor.

Besides, 64,320 litres of F.J was destroyed, 3,300 litres of NDPL/ spurious liquor, 355 litres of DPL and 480 kg of black jaggery were seized along with 78 vehicles. He further stated that the officials caught 858 kg of dry ganja and arrested 81 people during checks. He stated that under the Spandana programme, 67 complaints were received in which 42 were redressed and 25 were pending. He added that the checks would be continued in the State in the coming days.
