Vijayasai Reddy, Rajya Sabha member and YSRCP national general secretary, highlighted India’s position as the third-largest player in the global automobile sector.
He underlined the country’s commitment to advancing electric automobiles and the numerous opportunities they present and lauded the shift towards green mobility in today’s world, where electric battery-powered vehicles are replacing traditional petrol and diesel vehicles. Reddy commended the State government’s dedicated efforts to promote green mobility in Andhra Pradesh.
While China and the United States hold the top two positions in the global automobile sector, Reddy noted that India has surpassed Japan, which held the third position last year, in terms of automobile sales. In the previous year, Japan sold 42 million vehicles, while India sold 42.5 million vehicles.
Reddy expressed optimism that with the increased production of electric cars and other vehicle types over the next five years, India could surpass both China and the US in the auto sector.
Reddy also highlighted the progress of Georgia, the largest state on the Atlantic coast of America, in becoming a leader in green mobility. He said the Andhra Pradesh government’s aspirations to establish the State as the ‘electric mobility capital’ of India, surpassing Michigan, the leading State in the American automobile industry.
Recognising the growing importance of green mobility in Andhra Pradesh, Reddy attributed the increased focus to the YSRC-led government’s efforts over the past four years.
Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s administration has implemented robust measures, including yearly incentives, to foster the expansion of electric vehicle production, essential batteries, and charging infrastructure.
Reddy highlighted the collaboration between the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board (APEDB) and Urja Global, an experienced company in the field. This partnership aims to create a conducive system and environment for green mobility in the state, with plans to establish manufacturing units for lithium-ion batteries and electric vehicles in Nellore, Chittoor, and Anantapur districts.
The initiative is expected to generate around 250 direct and 1000 indirect employment opportunities, with an investment of Rs 200 crores. Reddy also mentioned the successful virtual meeting organised by the AP government in partnership with the World Economic Forum (WEF) in August of the previous year. The meeting aimed to position Andhra Pradesh as a prominent manufacturing center for electric vehicles (EVs). Sudhendu Sinha, an advisor to Niti Aayog, acknowledged Andhra Pradesh as an exemplary state in the field of electric vehicles. Reddy stressed the ideal environment in the State for expanding the electric vehicle sector, owing to the increasing production of non-conventional fuel sources.
