AP Women’s Commission seeks probe into death of Madarsa student

Commission takes suo motu case
The Chairperson of the Andhra Pradesh Women’s Commission, Gajjala Venkata Lakshmi, has expressed deep concern over the death of 17-year-old Madarsa student Karishma at Luna Centre in Ajith Singh Nagar, Vijayawada. She has announced that the Commission has taken a suo motu case. She announced the decision in a press statement here on Monday.
She said that Karishma’s parents raised doubts about her death as there were injuries on her body. She has taken the issue seriously and has written a letter to Director General of Police (DGP) Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, urging him to conduct a detailed probe. She said that the case was sensitive in nature.
Also, she asked for the primary inquiry report from Vijayawada Police Commissioner PHD Ramakrishna. She also demanded that the police conduct a transparent probe to ensure justice for the victim’s family.
Lakshmi also urged the State government to take steps to stop the attacks on women in the State. She mentioned the incident in which two women belonging to Kotavoorut of Payakaraupeta constituency of Anakapalli district were raped by the leaders of a local political party.
She said that it is the most despicable act to commit atrocities on women. In a letter, she asked the Anakapalli SP to take immediate action in this incident, arrest the culprits, and send a report to the Commission on the police action.
