Progressive Democratic Front (PDF) MLC KS Lakshman Rao has submitted a representation to Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) Commissioner Vivek Yadav to find a new contract agency to maintain sanitation workers in the capital region.

On Monday, he met Vivek Yadav at his office in Vijayawada along with CPM State secretariat member Ch Babu Rao and Capital Amaravati Area Sanitation Workers Union’s honorary chairman M Ravi.

The APCRDA sanitation agency’s contract period will expire in December. MLC Lakshmana Rao told Vivek Yadav that the CRDA should invite tenders to appoint a new agency for sanitation works in 29 capital villages, Amaravati, Secretariat and AP High Court.

He urged the Commissioner to retain the current sanitation workers from January, even after appointing the new agency.

He sought job security for the sanitation staff as they had been working in 29 villages since 2017. “If the CRDA terminates the sanitation workers now, their families will suffer. So, on humanitarian grounds, the CRDA should retain the workers and restore the community pensions, which had been stopped, he added.

Later, they thanked Commissioner Vivek Yadav and other officials for releasing the sanitation workers’ pending wages.
