Are officers’ associations in Telangana sleeping?

Bureaucrats have become the cannon fodder in the ongoing war between the Congress and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi in Telangana. The collateral damage seems to be the inexplicable silence of the officers’ associations. Even when police officers asseverate that they are being targeted in the phone tapping case, the IPS officers’ association has not yet taken any stand. When the ruling party had apparently targeted IPS officers belonging to a specific caste, opposition parties dropped a few names while their fraternal colleagues looked the other way. For newbies, a couple of months ago, a few bureaucrats complained to the Chief Secretary about ‘a slander campaign’ being run against them by some of their peers on social media. Now, although the role of many IPS officers from all sides is under lens in the phone tapping case, not one association has come out and made a statement. A little bird told us that if more and more names keep coming out, trust in bureaucracy will be the ultimate casualty.
