Industries Minister KT Rama Rao said that around 500 US companies have invested in Telangana. Their biggest presence is in tech, defence and aerospace and life sciences.
Top global tech companies have set up their largest campuses outside their own US headquarters here in Hyderabad, he said.
KTR was speaking while launching American India’s first India Chapter in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
“It is interesting to note that the US Consulate in Hyderabad issues the highest number of student visas among all other consulates in the world. The Telugu diaspora is strongly placed across professions like medicine, technology, academics and venture capital. Some of them have even tasted political success too,” KTR said.
Founded in 2001 at the initiative of former US President Bill Clinton following a request from Prime Minister Vajpayee, the AIF is committed to catalysing social and economic change in India and building a lasting bridge between the United States and India through high-impact interventions in education, livelihoods, public health and leadership development, with emphasis on empowering women to achieve gender equity.
KTR said that it is a matter of great satisfaction that the American India Foundation has decided to set up its first Chapter in Hyderabad.
