Municipal Administration Minister Audimulapu Suresh has said that faecal sludge treatment plants (FSTP) are being established across the State as part of the efforts to turn the State into ā€˜Swatcchandhra Pradesh’.

The Minister, along with MP Alla Ayodyarami Reddy, MLA Bolla Brahma Naidu, and Collector L Shiva Shankar, inaugurated the FSTP plant, constructed at a cost of Rs 1.25 crore, at Karampudi in Vinukonda municipal limits on Saturday.

Speaking to the media on the occasion, the minister said that the Bangalore-based Tide company constructed the FST plant on an acre of land at a cost of Rs 1.25 crore. The minister said that the FST plants would be established in all the municipalities across the state. The construction of FSTPs had been completed in some districts, he informed. With the help of Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, the FSTPs would be set up in municipalities across the state.

The minister stated that the government is working with the aim of making cities clean as part of urbanization and urged the people to develop awareness about sanitation and follow precautions. He warned that strict action would be taken against the officials if they were found indifferent to sanitation prevention.

He said that Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy’s efforts to improve sanitation had made it the first place in the country, and due to lagging in sanitation improvement measures in some states, the National Green Tribunal had imposed a fine of crores of rupees on those states.

Appreciating the efforts made by the Chief Minister to improve sanitation without paying a single rupee fine to Andhra Pradesh, the minister said ā€œHuman fecal sludge waste is collected from septic tanks and made into the water and used for plants and other purposes. It is commendable that the second faecal and sludge treatment plant in the state has been established at Vinukondaā€.
