Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) Auto Union staged a dharna in front of Bus Bhavan at RTC Cross Roads, Hyderabad on Tuesday to protest against the Mahalakshmi Scheme introduced by the Telangana government.
Bharatiya Private Transport Mazdoor Mahasangh (BPTMM) national general secretary Ravishankar Alluri said, “Due to this free bus ride for women initiative, auto drivers are suffering a lot. At least 70 per cent of the people who travel in autos from across the State are women. The government promised to give auto drivers Rs 12,000 per year, but the income of auto drivers of Rs 1,000 per day is being cut off because of this scheme.
The union has demanded that autos should be used in various government departments to save the employment of auto drivers and the number of buses should be reduced.
They have appealed to the government to replace the Commission’s online services like Ola, Uber, Rapido, and Porter with establishing a non-exploitation free government application on the model of the Kerala and Karnataka governments.
Auto Union State president Nanda Kishore, general secretary B Pentaiah Goud, Greater Auto Union president Srinivas Mudiraj, general secretary N Kishan and other union leaders participated in that protest.
Minister for Transport Ponnam Prabhakar has reacted on auto drivers issue on Tuesday. He said, “Auto drivers are also like our family members. We will take a good decision for all the sections.”
