Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has introduced the BC Bandhu to improve the socio-economic status of Backward Classes, said Minister for Finance T Harish Rao on Wednesday.
Speaking at a meeting, shortly after distributing BC Bandhu cheques to 200 beneficiaries, the Minister asserted that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi government was committed to the welfare of the poor. He pointed out that the State government has been providing free power to the Rajaka community and Nayee Brahmins. The government has also been distributing sheep at subsidised sheep to Golla and Kurma communities. The weaver community has been provided with raw materials at 50 per cent of the price, he said.
The government has introduced Rs 1 lakh financial assistance to those depending on caste-based professions to protect them. Mopeds were distributed to the fishermen and the government spent Rs 600 crore. The State government waived the tree tax levied on toddy trees as well as the pending dues from toddy tappers on this count. The one-of-a-kind dhobit ghats were built in the State.
